Warmblood Shwarmblood

My first horse………….

was not a warmblood.

Second horse………..

nope – still not a warmblood

I did ride an “American” warmblood for awhile…….

Ok, seriously… that’s a Saddlebred. I’m not sure who they’re kidding.

On another note, I remembered that particular jump as being HUGE………………..

I was several decades into horses when I found myself riding my FIRST warmblood.

He had the fanciest trot.

And I found it IMPOSSIBLE to sit.

I remember a lesson where my instructor told me, in spite of the fact that I was competing at Prelim (where sitting in dressage is mandatory) to “OMIT sitting for now” since I couldn’t seem to make it happen.

I was miserable…….
& determined NOT to ever own another warmblood.

He was my first AND last……….

I had decided that dressage riders with fancy warmbloods must be some kinds of acrobatic freaks whose pelvis could move in ways that mine absolutely couldn’t.
I couldn’t understand why ANYONE would want to put themselves through that kind of daily misery…………..
All those warmblood fans must be total beasts!

And then, in spite of my NO-MORE-WARMBLOODS rule…………I saw the cutest face ever………..

Yeah…….I couldn’t stop myself

She was just too cute for words.

But my trepidation grew daily………….

Warmblood number 2’s trot was WAAAAAY fancier than the first one.

How on earth was Bad Eventer ever going to survive riding THAT?

I don’t think I’ve taken a single photo where her feet are touching the ground.

Even just jogging up the driveway she has to show off that she has SPRINGS in every foot.

I knew I was toast.

Bad Eventer does NOT have those kind of dressage skillz.

I was whining a bit about my uber fancy pony & what kind of yoga I was going to have to do to survive riding her……… and someone commented, “Well….. the really nice ones are usually easier to sit.”

Huh??

I HAD a fancy one. And he was impossible to sit.

I thought maybe she was nuts.

And then, it finally happened……..
My super fancy kiddo………..

 grew up.

And that unbelievable trot I was afraid would throw me 3 feet in the air………

It’s like sitting on a water bed.

Maybe all those DQs aren’t as tough as I thought.

Haha! Love this! I can't sit my thoroughbred's trot when he isn't put together. Once he's actually through and over his back, though? It's like sitting on a cloud!
