Yeah, that’s what my instructor yelled at me in my last lesson……………………..
My response………….
“But……………. I am a hick.”
This is the kind of thing I do sometimes………………………………………
when he’s not watching………………………….that is
But I take notes!!! (That’s one of the lesson rules.)
OK, back to the point.
Is it ok to participate in other horse sports?
Does this make you a well rounded equestrian?
Does it give you more information and more experience?
Or is it just confusing, and interfering with my goals?
A drop jump!
Just how much focus does it take to succeed in this sport?
And is horse time spent not pursuing eventing slowing me down?
Is that why I’m Bad Eventer??
Hi! I've been following your blog for awhile (I think I fall under the same category of "bad eventer!").
I wonder the same thing you just wrote about. I like to trail ride and sometimes trot/canter through some contesting patterns. Nothing like those who pursue those disciplines would do, but just a way to "break things up" a bit. But I get weird looks from those friends who are also in the H/J community or eventer community about WHY would I want to do that? I certainly don't think there is anything wrong with it, in fact, my gelding seems to enjoy the change of pace. I do wonder what to say to those who think it's a waste of time.
I believe it was Winston Churchill who said "No hour of life is wasted that is spent in the saddle."
I event, I joust, I foxhunt. I ride my horse bareback on the trails and to the farmer's market on Saturday mornings, and sometimes to the local bar to get a beer on Saturday evenings. If that makes me a hick and a bad eventer, well then… we should get together and raise a toast!
