My mare can read my mind.
I have to be super careful not to even THINK something I want to do in 30 feet because we will do it immediately instead.
I was told in a dressage lesson recently NOT to ask her for a halt at X.
Just ask for a transition to walk………..
And………
Guess what.
It looked a little less like this………..
The connection between my brain and her feet
is faster than lightning.
Meanwhile,
I’ve been struggling to ride a
lovely
talented
athletic
horse that everyone tells me is…..
THE NICE ONE!!
If I have a horse that might actually jump around Rolex…………
Oh…….Never mind.
So…………this horse & I do NOT have that faster-than-a-speeding-bullet mental connection.
I ask for him to slow down……….
and it might register in 2, or 3 or maybe 4 seconds.
Which is just the right length of time for Bad Eventer to…..
COMPLETELY PANIC!!!!!
I’ve been riding hot sensitive Thoroughbreds as long as I can remember.
I think go, and they GO.
I think stop, and we STOP.
My warmblood…………………….
oh it’s all really just a suggestion as far as he’s concerned……………….
I was in a clinic with him and the clinician yelled at me for taking a crazy wide turn.
I SCREAMED IN FRUSTRATION politely explained that I couldn’t make the shorter turn.
I believe he tried to bet me $100 that I, in fact, COULD make the turn.
Bad Eventer may be bad at eventing, but I knew not to make that bet.
As I started around the arena, while I was a VERY LONG WAY AWAY……
he yelled,
“START TURNING NOW!!!!!!!!!”
Yes, yes, we made the turn to the jump by starting the ATTEMPT to turn 10 miles before hand.
I guess we’ve made improvement……. but there is still a just-long-enough delay between my cue and his feet………….
to make me crazy.
Bad Eventer may not be made of the right stuff to ride warmbloods………
Maybe if I made my reaction time match his……
