People keep asking me that.

And while I suppose it’s a legitimate question…..

At the moment I’m riding 2 baby Thoroughbreds.

We’re still working on not doing this……….

There is a reason I’m holding on with BOTH HANDS………..

We’ve been working on basics all winter………….

but I’ve had a particularly hairy week…………..

A recent cross country outing started out with a bit of a levitation maneuver.

I still remember the first time I came off a horse like that. I was on a large red Thoroughbred ………..hhhmmmmmm this sounds familiar.

I had been on him for awhile and was crossing from an outdoor arena to the indoor when one second I was sitting on a horse……………..

and the next I was floating in air.

Of course I didn’t “float” for long…………….. and I watched him galloping off as I fell into the MUD.

It was the fastest move I’ve ever seen, or rather not seen. He literally jumped out from underneath me in a move faster than you can blink.

The fall last week was just a tad less dramatic.

It was raining…………… there was a water jump………..then there was a herd of deer…………… The soaking wet saddle definitely played a role…………

It was still a duck and jump move………….I just hung on a split second longer……….. I had that moment where I could decide whether to fall off or TRY to climb back in the tack.

I had a feeling he was about to bolt so I decided a fall at a slower speed was preferable…………. and I let go.

A few days later I was riding the OTHER baby Thoroughbred……….

and he decided that the person standing by the arena – who he’d already passed TWICE  was a horse eating monster………….

He did the quicker-than-lightning-duck-and-run move. One second I was on a horse, the next………….

not so much.

I hadn’t fallen off of either one of them until this week.

I know that’s astonishing.

But both of them unloading me in the same few days was very much on my mind when the Bad Event Groom asked, “When’s our first show?”

Well……….. the way I see it………..Bad Eventer can fall off for free at home…………..
