Fasten Your SeatBelts!!

Does everyone know the famous Betty Davis line from All About Eve?

“Fasten your seat belts!! It’s going to be a bumpy night!!”

I first saw that movie as an assignment for a play I was acting in. Did I mention that I was a full on thespian for awhile?

I was playing a role they wanted modelled after Betty Davis’s role in that classic film.

I fell in love with the lines and the vocabulary. The language is amazing and it was filmed in a time when a single shot lasted more than 3 seconds.  And yet it’s a fantastic film with drama, suspense, betrayal, violence. It has it all.

Even Marilyn Monroe was in it!

I believe the seat belt line has been stolen paid homage to over and over again in other movies, and television shows. It’s just SUCH a good line!

This weekend is looking to be one of those bumpy rides.

I’m headed off for a do over with the new pony.

Our first outing was a bit of a catastrophe, and we’re going to try and involve just a bit less terror this time around.

I’ve had him exactly 2 weeks longer than last time :-).
But that also means I’ve ridden him exactly twice as much now 🙂 (I think that sounds more impressive.)

I discovered after our last outing that what I thought was WARP SPEED…………

well…………………

wasn’t.

Anyone know a friend who just moved up to Novice and had UBER time faults on XC because they were sure they were flying at MOCK 10, when they were……um…….kinda sorta………..mostly trotting????

Well, I do.

I have a super good friend who had 60 seconds worth of time faults at Novice on a RACE HORSE! (Seriously, how is that possible?)

In some strange space time warp it seems that the FASTER you THINK you are going, the SLOWER you are going in reality.

My last Warp Speed cross country round…………..where I was sure that I was going to die because we were FLYING………………we had

um

cough

sputter

cough

a couple of………………..

yeah

time penalties.

We actually came in about 5 seconds over optimum time.

This was an award I received once for being dead last in a 50 mile endurance race.

So………………………………

I guess that means we weren’t going as fast as I thought we were.

I found this rather hard to believe. After all I’ve been competing at Prelim.

And this was Training level………….

BUT

Time is relative, and stop watches are quite difficult to argue with.

My coach told me today to loop my reins, sit up in front of the fence, and if I still think we’re going too fast to just remember the video that proved,…..we weren’t exactly cruising……………

So that’s the plan.

Bad Eventer is going to leave the start box on the crazy runaway race horse, in a snaffle, on a loose rein.

Yeah.

I think I’m going to lose some sleep about this.

(No worries, I’ll have the full report at the end of the weekend.)
