Yes, yes, Bad Eventer occasionally has delusions of grandeur………
So……………….she got conned talked into competing 3 horses in one weekend.
Having done that once………….
I remember just how much pain and misery FUN that was……………
and that I couldn’t possibly roll with my usual “one-man-show”………….
By great fortune Bad Eventer has a friend (who is an incredible show groom) and a very smart working student who both offered to help.
Bad Eventer had her Super Team ready for the competition.
Of course they had no idea they were signing up for this……….
or this……………………
THAT was a real Bad Eventer adventure……………
let’s just say, inches and inches of rain, plus extra firm pour in pads, plus stud holes don’t mix well……
There was a moment where I was trying frantically to cut the pad material out of the stud holes…….in the dark…………with a variety of sharp objects……………..
when Bad Eventer decided that alcohol, darkness, power tools and horses just don’t mix……….
Fortunately a fantastic farrier saved the show the next morning with a sharper knife (and um…….. stronger forearms).
Riding in muck with firm pour in pads, is like ice skating…….it would have been a true NO GO.
In spite of pouring rain and extreme schedule changes every horse was polished, ready in time, in the right tack, and prepared to put in fantastic performances……………..muck, rain and all.
Here’s a huge shout out, and bigger thank you to the 2 most awesomely fantastic Bad Eventer show grooms!
They definitely made me look like a pro……………. (for once)!!
Of course they’ve also threatened to start a spin off blog……
Tales from Bad Eventer’s Grooms……………..
I would read that blog! 🙂
Here's a true Bad Eventer (follower) moment.
I was riding my friend's older novice eventing mare. Cute little pony, with a TOTAL pony canter. And trot. And walk.

After warming up this cute little mare, my friend convinced me to hop over a few cross rails. I obliged, in true Bad Eventer (follower) style.
How I thought things would go:

How things probably looked:

Apparently, my cross-rail equitation had been lost somewhere along the way. Feeling a bit ashamed of myself (I'm a pro, I swear I am), I headed out for a nice relaxing gallop on the cross country course.
Things were going very well, so my friend again convinced me to try a few jumps. I was feeling unsure of myself, after my "issues" with the cross-rail. She pointed me at a nice, inviting BN fence.
I was prepared for the worst.

But amazingly… this is how I looked:

(Yes, exactly like Zazou. No exaggerations here.)
To make sure it wasn't just a fluke, I tried another nice-looking cross-country fence.

Same thing.
Bad Eventer (follower) is one of a very few people who can make a cross-country ride look like an equitation medal round… but thoroughly mess up a cross-rail course.
Oh well!
