Doug Payne Clinic Day 1 – Dressage

Bad Eventer being a completely obsessive compulsive overly enthusiastic student, was the FIRST to arrive.

The venue was a bit of a ghost town when I pulled in…. and I’ll admit to having a moment of panic wondering if I had showed up on the wrong day. That would be such a Bad Eventer thing to do. Like the time I was driving late at night from Alabama to Texas……….I drove 4 hours, stayed at a smoke filled roach motel, and then found out when the sun came up that I had gotten turned around somehow & had just spent $60 to sleep in a disgusting room 30 miles from my house……

So I double checked and was reassured that I had, in fact, showed up at the correct place on the correct day. Phew.

After the roach motel experience, I bought a GPS. The next show I plugged in the address on the show flyer only to find several hours later that I had driven to the show secretary’s house…… which was most definitely not the show grounds……….

So I checked my calendar a second time before unloading the ponies………..just in case.

Would you expect anything different from MY horses??

I had arrived early because I wanted to be there in time to settle in the ponies, set up my campsite, put on my thinking cap, and be ready, notebook in hand, to watch the first lesson.

It started out with a bang! This should be a “caption this” photo!

Did he……??

A. lose a contact?

B. start kicking back margaritas on the plane before he got here?

C. demonstrate how horses keep their balance and lose their balance with crookedness & straightness, while pretending to be THE HORSE??

I knew then, this was going to be a good weekend…….

To Be Continued……
