We were being bombarded daily with terror from the skies. It was a pterodactyl !
After an unexpected “dismount” thanks to our giant feathered kamikaze pilot….. I decided for equestrian safety to move the box they were hiding in.
It was a hunting stand that had blown over in the last big storm.
My fear of the horse eating pterodactyls was soon replaced by horror…………
as I realized that we had just disturbed a dinosaur love nest!
They had babies!!
As much as I wanted those birds to leave, now I was HORRIFIED that they might not come back.
I fretted, I checked on them, I called wildlife rescues. I started eyeing road kill thinking “baby food”…………
It was a VERY BAD couple of days for Bad Eventer………
And I will admit I was completely and totally joyful when the proud parents made their return.
I really, and I mean REALLY didn’t want to become a foster mother to two baby vultures pterodactyls.
When the parents resumed the joyful duties of regurgitating up rotting carcases for the young’uns, I got to become the crazy Aunt who visited frequently…. told them how cute & big they were getting…… and took lots of photos.
I saw them testing out their wings yesterday and was hoping to get some “flight school” photos…….
But today………….. they were gone………
and crazy Auntie Bad Eventer may have a bit of empty nest syndrome.
The baby dinosaurs are off to college where I hope they find many a juicy roadkill…………………safely away from traffic.
I disturbed a nest of pinkie baby mice once when I was cleaning up my hay shed. I freaked, put them back and waited the appropriate time for mice to grow up and leave home before I finished cleaning the hay shed.
Everyone thinks I'm nuts.
You should be so proud. I had no idea vultures nested on the ground. And they are kinda cute as babies, aren't they?
I never thought I would say a vulture was cute!
aww what a fun post!
