How EXACTLY do you train for that?

We’ve been doing de-spooking training for awhile now.

I had figured out…….. THE HARD WAY that my horse was terrified of………

people…..

vehicles…..

jump judges…..

flowers……

deer……

wind……

anything in a different place than it was yesterday……………….

this sideways move was due to the PLANTS under the jump

……………………………pretty much everything.

So we’ve been doing our homework, and I’ve been training him to make…….

different choices.

You know.

How about…..instead of rearing & bolting?

We just………jump sideways a bit?

Let’s call that a compromise.

And we’ve been making some progress. He hasn’t jumped out from underneath me in a few weeks…….

But then a Pterodactyl moved in on our trot path! (Thank you Chloe for NAMING THE BEAST! She started calling her the pterodactyl after her own horse/bird near death experience…..)

Seriously.

This thing is a freaking dinosaur diving at us from the sky.

Have you ever had a bird with an 8′ wing span dive bomb you on horse back?

Well Bad Eventer has.

MORE THAN ONCE………… and amazingly survived to tell about it.

After a particularly bad VELOCIRAPTOR/PTERODACTYL HYBRID assault ………. which resulted in some loose ponies and bruised riders……………

We decided something had to give.

A large tree with a lot of undergrowth seemed to be where the ZombieHorseFleshEatingDinosaurBird liked to hang out…… so we decided to clear out some of the brush so we could at least have more warning when the bird was IN RESIDENCE.

And that’s when we found

Dinosaur Babies!!!!!

Of course that means the TerrorFromTheSky gets to STAY on my trot path……………………..

So I’m trying to figure out HOW YOU TRAIN FOR THAT!!

Even WonderPony…………..who only gave THIS guy an eye roll when he ran across the path underneath him……………. seriously………..

Even Wonder Pony B O L T E D when the giant dinosaur creature dive bombed us.

How on earth do you train for this kind of thing???

Maybe??

lol that is funny. 🙂 There used to be a grouse that lived in my hacking field. It would fly up under my horse as we rode by. At first my horse shied but was fine. Then it came back and he leapt a bit further. The third time he decided he was done. I dismounted and then it flew at us one more time. My dog spotted and gave chase. Part of me was cheering for the dog but all of my horse was. 🙂

Shouldn't the dive bombing stop once the youngins are big enough to not need so much mama protection?
Eitherway I sadly can't help; but suggest changing trot path 😉
PS: LOVE the text messages – LOL
