Ups & Downs or Feeling like a Failure

The Ups

4 days ago:

A fun jump school with friends…..

that’s a Christmas tree!

where the babies behaved beautifully…………

which translates into

no bucking

or rearing

They were both little rock stars.

More Ups
3 days ago:

A 10 mile ride at the equestrian park with minimal spooking, running away, or other baby shenanigans in spite of EXTREME WIND and COLD (at least for this area.)

And then there are the DOWNs……………

That would be the last 2 days:

There is nothing quite like 2 days in a row of BASIC flat work to make Bad Eventer feel like a failure.

Why is it that DRESSAGE is what always brings me to suicidal thoughts………..

I can fall off jumping OVER

& OVER

oh yes……….and OVER……

No problem.

But I get in the sand box and find that my horse won’t

go straight

or bend

or stop

and it just pushes me right over the edge.

Every time I’ve ever wanted to run away screaming give up, it was while attempting some ridiculously simple maneuver on the flat.

Why is it that on one horse you can look AND FEEL like you know what you’re doing…….

And on another you look like you’ve just had your first 2 lessons.

Two days in a row of flat work basics with my LONG TERM PROJECTS was definitely enough for me to question what on earth I’m doing with my life…………

My instructor once told me during a particularly trying dressage lesson that I should ……perhaps…………find a different sport…………

That pissed me off enough that I quit feeling sorry for myself and fixed the problem.

Maybe it’s time Bad Eventer scheduled another dressage lesson!
