Who came up with these names anyway?

It’s hard to explain to a non-eventer why you’ve had such a hard time competing at a level called “Training”.

Or try explaining just how huge jumps are at “Preliminary”, To the uninitiated Preliminary sounds like an entry level, beginner division.

Prelim sounds like this! (and yes that’s me.)

Not Like This!

And how is it that “Intermediate” courses have a height limit 2 inches lower than The Rolex? But are only “intermediate”.

I saw a Horse Wanted ad recently.

Someone was looking for an Intermediate horse…..

……. for their 9 year old daughter.

My head spun around 4 times until I figured out what they meant by Intermediate….

was not Intermediate in the world of Bad Eventer.

My absolute favorite was when someone asked about one of my imported horses. They essentially called me a liar when I told them he’d competed at Training as a 4 year old.

They replied,  “His record clearly shows he was only competing at Pre-Novice.” I wanted to say something like, “Sweet honey child…… in Ireland Pre-Novice is 1.0 meter, should I do the math for you?”

But I didn’t say anything.

I decided years ago people didn’t need any extra help making idiots of themselves.

So Bad Eventer has just sent in her very first entry with an “I” on it………..

Yes, “I” stands for Intermediate.

And now the really important questions……..

How many margaritas will it take for Bad Eventer to actually sleep between now and then??

Shadbelly??………….

or just a Bad Eventer T shirt??……………….

And exactly WHEN did dressage arenas get letters like S and L ?????

So funny you wrote about this. I just had a similar conversation with someone in my office. I just wanted to pat her on the head and say "its ok you're cute" and just move on. SMH some people 🙂 Don't stress about stepping up, you'll do great! Can't wait to hear all about it. And yes, I agree with the previous post, the world needs Bad Eventer shirts 🙂 I would totally buy one!

  2. Me

I want a bad eventer tee-shirt too! Congrats and good luck on the big move up! Can't wait to read about it…
