I rode my horse – for the FIRST time!

OK.

I know that doesn’t make much sense.

But here’s the story.

Pretty much….

well…..

make that EVERY TIME

I’ve ever ridden a dressage test in a show

I ………..

well…………………

wasn’t much of a participant.

By the time I got to the first 20 meter circle I was this color

Because I had forgotten to

you know

breathe.

Seeing that I failed to do that whole breathe-in-breathe-out thing…………

you can imagine the quality of my riding.

The moment I entered the ring at A ………………I was basically

FROZEN IN PLACE……………

So this weekend my coach says these magic words.

“Now, don’t go in there and get nervous!”

Unh huh, that’s what he said.

However, like waiving some sort of magic wand

it worked.

And for the first time in my entire life

I actually

RODE MY HORSE

in my dressage test.

It was truly a breakthrough.

By the way, it’s a lot easier to remember your test with the benefit of a little oxygen.

Who knew?!!

Heh… you're not the only one with this problem! My old instructor used to call practice tests and after each movement, yell "BREATHE!". I'm pretty sure I still only breathe AFTER each movement, but you know, better than holding your breath for the entire 4 minute test. 🙂
