Medicine, Magic, and lots and lots of Maalox

My vet had just said the two words I never want to hear again in the same sentence.

Horse

&

MRI

The last time I heard those words, the end result was a horsey career
…….. over before it began.

I didn’t actually do the MRI that time, we started with some radiographs and they were significant enough to know we had a deal breaker.

This time, in spite of my horror, I wanted answers and the MRI seemed my best choice.

In the defense of my amazing veterinarian, he didn’t really WANT to do the MRI. But we had already done a couple of treatments that hadn’t worked.

His preference was to go to “the next treatment…… this one will work!”

That sounded a little too familiar….. not wanting to waste anymore time…… I decided that I needed to know what we were dealing with.

The MRI was scheduled post-haste.

And I didn’t sleep for days.

As a matter of fact, I had MRI NIGHTMARES

Horse MRIs require general anesthesia…………….. and I STILL have post traumatic flashbacks from horse anesthesia in vet school.

As it turns out the agony of waiting for the MRI was pretty small compared with the hour long review of the findings.

It’s called TMI.

Sometimes you can’t see the forest for the trees, and while wading through the pages of information from the MRI I got the distinct feeling I was in BIG trouble.

I had just dropped a small fortune to get THE ANSWER, and now I had significantly more questions than answers.

Great idea Bad Eventer………….

to be continued…………..
